eMusiShare is a versatile set of music education tools that can be adapted to teaching situations both large and small!

In 1999 at Morasha, MusiShare was hired to develop an alternative music program through the use of web
and other multimedia technologies. We have accomplished this task through the use of a number of components :
-Streamed Instructional Animated Videos followed by databased testing in the Comprehensive Assessment Room
or "CAR". Allowing for constant testing and tracking of the students understanding of concepts and performance.
-New to eMusiShare is the addition of spoken text allowing students to "hear" all questions.
-Downloadable PDF Worksheets tied to the videos content allowing the use of the pencil (a musician’s best friend!)
-Multimedia projects using available technologies suitable for the young student.

Here are some examples:
Circus 2002 | Klezmer cards | Beethoven

These components reflect what we believe to be needed in today’s American culture. That being a need for “real content” within the mechanisms we use to teach music. As I am 58, my youth was not nearly as visual as today’s children. I listened to the radio,
listened to records, went to concerts… Today’s children find this and more on TV or in an iPOD. So with this in mind how can we transmit the “real content” in music to the students. Shouldn’t we use what they are using, adapting our musical culture to their mediums without altering our musical content?

To date, the majority of online ear training sites require  a 6th grade vocabulary. By using videos we are able to exploit the use of animation and 3D to communicate the basics of music with K-3rd graders. In fact, I asked the 6th graders in 2003 what their impression was of their musical journey with eMusiShare and they said, “You tricked us! You tricked us into learning about music” I smiled, as this was indeed what I attempted to do and was very pleased to know that I had succeeded through the use of Bobot, Mr. Stickman, Mr. B and other characters used in the videos.

eMusishare is a low cost solution for schools who
wish to provide an advanced music program
for their students.

Having the videos was not enough however as we needed to assess the progress of the students. How to do this without resorting to old-fashioned methods was a big challenge and was finally accomplished with the introduction of the “Comprehensive Assessment Room” or CAR into the curriculum. CAR allows the videos and the testing to be housed in the same program. Because CAR is a fully developed data based environment, assessing student’s progress becomes easy for teachers.

As for the multimedia projects, this past year was accomplished with QuickTime based technologies. As many children are too young to work with these kinds of programs, we have looked for a more visually based software approach and have introduced this program into the 6th graders curriculum this year. This software, used alongside garageband, will allow the students to create entirely on their own an end of the year multimedia project.

With the "eMUSISHARE@Morasha" program at the Morasha School,
we are pleased that our program has become a beacon for music education in the US!
